The Unwashed Heathens and Foreigners of “God’s Not Dead.”

(ZOMFG, SO MANY SPOILERS. Also: Racism, domestic violence, religious idiocy.) We’ve been talking lately about the shitball movie God’s Not Dead. We started with a review of the movie itself, then a summary of why I hate this movie so much, an … Continue reading

The Handbook: Examining the Evidence.

This time of year in general is an important one for me–almost everybody in my family has birthdays in the three months of winter, and most of the anniversaries happen around then as well–and most of the important deaths (“light a candle for me every year,” she asked, and I always do, always, always). So I want to talk about Christmas today, and at the end there’ll be some link love to some posts written elsewhere by me and other folks in case you need something to keep you busy. Continue reading

The Most Misunderstood Word (Isn’t Kingdom, Sorry).

I saw this interview on Religion News Service with Scot McKnight, who argues that Christians talk a big game about this idea of “kingdom,” but don’t really understand what it means in the Bible or how it should play out … Continue reading

The Unequally Yoked Club: The Real Threat.

Last time we talked about how church leaders and teachers have been pushing the false idea for years that marriages must be “based on Jesus” or else terrible things will happen to the couples involved. Today we’ll talk about some … Continue reading
